Summary
Nolina parviflora, commonly known as Small Flowered Beargrass Tree, is an evergreen plant that can be classified as both a tree and a succulent, native to the semi-desert regions of Mexico. It typically grows to a height of 13-15 feet (4-5 meters) and a width of 6-8 feet (1.8-2.4 meters). This species is characterized by its rosettes of long, narrow leaves and a woody stem that resembles a tree trunk. The white flowers are small and inconspicuous, blooming in clusters during the winter and spring months, and are followed by decorative, capsule-like fruits.
Nolina parviflora is valued for its drought tolerance and architectural form, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping and as a focal point in water-wise gardens. It is also suitable for container planting and rock gardens. In cultivation, it requires minimal maintenance, thriving in full sun and well-draining soils. While it is drought-tolerant, occasional deep watering during extended dry periods will keep it looking its best. It is not commonly affected by diseases or pests, but root rot can be an issue if overwatered or planted in poorly draining soils.CC BY-SA 4.0
