Summary

Ophiopogon clarkei, commonly known as Himalayan Mondo Grass, is an evergreen perennial herb native to forest floors and shaded grasslands in the Himalayas and Southeast Asia. It typically grows to a height of 0.7-1 feet (0.2-0.3 meters) and spreads 0.5-1 feet (0.2-0.3 meters), forming dense tufts of dark green, grass-like leaves. The plant produces delicate white flowers in the summer, which are followed by blue-black berries that are both ornamental and a food source for birds.

Himalayan Mondo Grass is valued for its lush foliage and is often used as a ground cover, in rock gardens, or as an edging plant. It is also suitable for container gardening and underplanting beneath larger shrubs. This plant is relatively low-maintenance, tolerating a range of light conditions from full sun to full shade. It prefers consistently moist, well-drained soils with rich organic matter. While generally pest-free, it can occasionally suffer from crown rot if grown in overly wet conditions.CC BY-SA 4.0
