Summary

Ophiopogon intermedius, commonly known as Aztec Grass, is an evergreen perennial herb native to forest understories and open grasslands in South and Southeast Asia, particularly thriving in the dappled light of woodland areas. This plant typically grows to a height of 10-15 inches (25-38 cm) and can spread to about 12 inches (30 cm) wide, forming dense tufts of foliage. The leaves are dark green, sometimes with a slight variegation, and provide year-round interest.

Aztec Grass is valued for its low maintenance and ability to create a lush ground cover in garden settings. It produces small, bell-shaped flowers that are usually purple or white, appearing in the summer and are followed by blue-black berries that can add interest in the fall and winter. It is often used in border plantings, as an edging plant, or under trees where other plants might struggle due to low light. Aztec Grass prefers consistently moist, well-drained soil and can tolerate a range of light conditions from full sun to part shade. It is relatively drought-tolerant once established but will benefit from regular watering during prolonged dry spells.CC BY-SA 4.0
