Summary

Ophiopogon jaburan, commonly known as Lilyturf, is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to forest floors and shaded grassy slopes in Japan, Korea and Taiwan. It typically grows to a height of 1-2 feet (0.3-0.6 meters) and a width of about 1 foot (0.3 meters). The plant forms dense tufts of arching, glossy, dark green leaves, which provide a lush, grass-like appearance. The small, bell-shaped flowers are usually purple or white and appear on short spikes in the late spring to early summer, followed by blue-black berries that are somewhat ornamental.

Lilyturf is valued for its ground-covering abilities, particularly in shaded areas where other plants might struggle. It is often used in border plantings, underplanting in woodland gardens, and as an edging plant. It is relatively low maintenance, requiring little care once established, and is appreciated for its ability to thrive in part shade to full shade with medium water needs and well-drained soils. While generally pest and disease free, it can suffer from root rot in overly wet conditions.CC BY-SA 4.0
