Summary

Oxalis griffithii, commonly known as Wood Sorrel, is a perennial herb that is evergreen or semi-deciduous depending on the climate. It is native to the understory of temperate forests, thickets, and alpine meadows in Bhutan, China, India, and Japan. This species typically reaches a modest height of 7–25 cm (2.8–9.8 in) and features trifoliate leaves that resemble clover. The delicate flowers have white petals with distinctive lilac veins and are produced in abundance during spring, summer, and fall, adding a subtle charm to garden settings.

Wood Sorrel is valued for its low maintenance and ability to thrive in dappled light, making it an excellent ground cover for woodland gardens or shaded borders. It prefers consistently moist, well-drained soils rich in organic matter and can tolerate a range of pH levels. While it does best in part shade, it can also adapt to more shaded conditions. Oxalis griffithii is not commonly known for any significant problems or diseases, but it can be sensitive to overwatering which may lead to root rot. It is not typically invasive but can spread through bulbils and self-seeding if conditions are favorable.CC BY-SA 4.0
