Estimated Native Range
Summary
Pachyphytum hookeri, commonly known as Hooker’s Fat Plant, is an evergreen succulent native to the rocky cliffs and arid regions of Northeast and Southwest Mexico. It typically grows to a height and width of approximately 0.5 feet (0.2 meters), forming rosettes of thick, fleshy leaves that may have a bluish or silvery tint. The leaves are often covered with a powdery bloom that helps reflect sunlight and conserve water. Pachyphytum hookeri blooms in the spring and summer, producing inflorescences with green, white, and red flowers that are moderately showy and attract pollinators.
This succulent is valued for its low maintenance requirements and ornamental foliage, making it a popular choice for rock gardens, container plantings, and as a ground cover in xeriscaped areas. It thrives in full sun and requires very little water, making it suitable for drought-tolerant landscapes. The plant prefers well-draining soil to prevent root rot. While generally pest-free, it can be susceptible to mealybugs and overwatering. Hooker’s Fat Plant is not known for being invasive and is easily propagated from leaf cuttings or offsets, allowing gardeners to expand their collection or share with others.CC BY-SA 4.0
