Summary
Pentanema ensifolium, commonly known as Schwert-Alant, is a deciduous perennial herb native to meadows, grasslands, and open woodlands in Central and Southeastern Europe. It typically grows to a height of 1-2 feet (0.3-0.6 meters) and a width of 0.3-0.7 feet (0.09-0.2 meters). This plant features lance-shaped leaves and bears bright yellow, daisy-like flowers during the summer months, which are moderately showy and attract pollinators.
Schwert-Alant is appreciated for its ease of maintenance and the cheerful yellow blooms that can enliven a garden setting. It is often used in wildflower meadows, perennial borders, and as part of pollinator-friendly gardens. It thrives in full sun and adapts to a range of soil types, provided they have good drainage. While it tolerates medium or high water levels, it is also somewhat drought-tolerant once established. Gardeners should be aware that in some conditions, it may self-seed and spread, which can be managed by deadheading spent flowers.CC BY-SA 4.0
