Persicaria glabra, commonly known as Smooth Smartweed, is a perennial herb that is native to wetlands, marshes, and riparian areas across the world. It typically grows to a height of 1-3 feet (0.3-0.9 meters) and spreads to a similar width. The plant features lance-shaped leaves and spikes of small, white or pale pink flowers that bloom in late summer to early fall. The flowers are not particularly showy, but they do attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

Smooth Smartweed is valued for its ability to thrive in wet conditions and is often used for erosion control along waterways or in rain gardens. It is also a food source for wildlife. In cultivation, it requires consistently moist to wet soil and can grow in full sun to part shade. While it is not demanding in terms of soil quality, it does not tolerate drought well.
