Summary

Phlox procumbens, commonly known as Trailing Phlox, is a semi-deciduous hybrid perennial herb resulting from a cross between Phlox subulata and Phlox stolonifera. It is more accurately described as a low-growing plant, typically reaching a height of 6 inches (15 cm) with a spread of 12-18 inches (30-45 cm). This plant is native to woodland areas and along stream banks in the eastern United States, where it thrives in dappled sunlight and well-drained soils.

Trailing Phlox is valued for its carpet-like growth habit and profuse spring blooms, which are highly attractive to pollinators. The flowers are vibrant pink and bloom profusely in the spring, creating a striking display. It is often used as a ground cover, in rock gardens, or along borders. Trailing Phlox prefers moist, well-drained soil and can tolerate full sun to part shade conditions. While it is generally easy to maintain, it can be susceptible to powdery mildew and spider mites, especially in hot, dry climates. To prevent these issues, ensure good air circulation and avoid overhead watering.CC BY-SA 4.0
