Estimated Native Range
Summary
Phylica ericoides, commonly known as Heath Phylica, is an evergreen shrub native to the fynbos region of South Africa. It typically grows to a height of 1-3 feet (0.3-0.9 meters) and a similar width of 0.5-3 feet (0.2-0.9 meters). This plant is adapted to a Mediterranean climate, thriving in well-drained, sandy soils and tolerating coastal conditions.
Heath Phylica is valued for its fine-textured foliage and the small, white, fluffy flowers it produces in the fall and winter, which are attractive to pollinators. It is often used in rock gardens, as a low hedge, or in mass plantings for its drought tolerance and year-round interest. In cultivation, it requires minimal maintenance, making it a suitable choice for water-wise gardens. Heath Phylica prefers full sun to part shade and is well-suited to soils with medium drainage. While generally disease-resistant, it can be susceptible to root rot if overwatered or planted in poorly drained soils.CC BY-SA 4.0
