Phyllostachys bissetii, commonly known as Bisset’s Bamboo, is an evergreen, running bamboo species native to the damp woodlands and forest margins in the Sichuan and Zhejiang provinces of China. It can grow up to 20 feet (6 meters) in height and features dense, dark green foliage. Bisset’s Bamboo is characterized by its vigorous growth and culms that are initially green, turning to a yellow-green with age. The plant typically flowers infrequently, and the flowering cycle can lead to the death of the bamboo.

Bisset’s Bamboo is valued for its rapid growth and dense foliage, making it an excellent choice for privacy screens and windbreaks in the landscape. It is also used for erosion control due to its robust root system. In cultivation, it requires moist, well-drained soil and thrives in full sun to partial shade. While it is relatively low maintenance, it is important to contain its spread, as it can become invasive.
