Plectranthus oertendahlii, commonly known as silverleaf spurflower or Swedish ivy, is a tender perennial herb native to the forest floors and shaded riverbanks of eastern South Africa. It typically grows to a modest height of 8 inches (20 centimeters) and features somewhat succulent, heart-shaped leaves that are visually striking with their silver variegation on the surface and deep reddish-purple undersides. The plant produces delicate, pink-tinged white or pale blue flowers that bloom in the cooler seasons of autumn and winter, adding a subtle charm to its foliage.

Silverleaf spurflower is valued for its attractive foliage and low-maintenance nature, making it an excellent choice for indoor gardens and as a ground cover in shaded outdoor areas in warm climates. It thrives in well-draining, humus-rich soil and prefers consistent moisture without waterlogging. In cultivation, it requires protection from cold temperatures and is best grown in part shade to full shade conditions. While it is not known for significant pest or disease issues, overwatering can lead to root rot.
