Potentilla nivea, commonly known as Snow Cinquefoil, is a perennial herb that is native to a variety of habitats including alpine and subalpine zones, tundra, and rocky outcrops in subarctic and temperate regions of Asia, North America, Greenland, and Europe. It is particularly adapted to cold climates and can be found in the subalpine regions of the Rockies and Alps. Snow Cinquefoil typically grows to a modest height of 4-16 inches (10-40 cm) and spreads out to form low mats or cushions. Its appearance is characterized by its silvery, hairy leaves and five-petaled, yellow flowers that bloom from late spring to midsummer, adding a splash of color to rock gardens and alpine displays.

This plant is valued for its hardiness and ability to thrive in poor, rocky soils, making it an excellent choice for rock gardens, alpine gardens, and areas with challenging growing conditions. It requires minimal maintenance once established and is drought-tolerant. Snow Cinquefoil prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained soils.
