Estimated Native Range
Summary
Potentilla wallichiana, commonly known as Wallich Cinquefoil, is an evergreen perennial herb native to the alpine and subalpine regions in Souteast and East Asia. It typically grows to a height of 0.3 feet (0.09 meters) and spreads 1-3 feet (0.3-0.9 meters) wide. This species forms a low-growing mat with pinnate leaves and bears bright yellow flowers from late spring to mid-summer, which are modest in size but can be quite numerous, creating a showy display.
Wallich Cinquefoil is valued for its ability to thrive in rock gardens and alpine troughs, where its evergreen foliage provides year-round interest. It is also used as ground cover in borders or woodland gardens. The plant prefers well-drained soils and can tolerate a range of light conditions from full sun to partial shade, although it flourishes best in cooler climates. It is relatively low-maintenance, but gardeners should be mindful of potential leaf spot diseases. Wallich Cinquefoil is not known for aggressive roots or significant pest problems, making it a trouble-free addition to many garden settings.CC BY-SA 4.0
