Summary

Pseudomuscari azureum, commonly known as Azure Grape Hyacinth, is a bulbous perennial herb native to rocky slopes and scrublands in Turkey. It typically grows to a modest height of 4–15 cm (1.6–5.9 in) with two to three slender, grey-green leaves emerging from each bulb. In spring, specifically March or April in the Northern Hemisphere, it produces a dense raceme of up to 60 bright blue flowers, each 4–5 mm (0.16–0.20 in) long, with a distinctive darker stripe along the lobes. The flowers are highly valued for their vivid azure hue and are considered quite showy.

Azure Grape Hyacinth is celebrated for its vibrant spring blooms and is often used in rock gardens, borders, and as underplanting for taller bulbs. It has earned the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit, indicating its value in cultivation. This plant is frost-hardy and adaptable, preferring full sun to part shade. It thrives in well-drained soils and requires moderate watering. While it is generally low-maintenance, it can be susceptible to bulb rot if overwatered or planted in poorly drained soils. To prevent overcrowding and maintain vigor, clumps should be divided every few years.CC BY-SA 4.0
