Summary

Pulsatilla cernua var. koreana, commonly known as Korean Pasque Flower, Korean Windflower, or Korean Pulsatilla, is a perennial herb native to alpine meadows and rocky slopes in Korea. It typically grows to a height and width of 0.5-1 feet (0.15-0.3 meters), forming a low mound of finely dissected leaves. The flowers are bell-shaped, initially nodding before fully opening, and are most commonly purple, blooming in early to mid-spring. The flowers are quite showy, with a soft, hairy exterior that adds to their unique texture. After flowering, the plant produces distinctive, plume-like seed heads that are also ornamental.

Korean Pasque Flower is valued for its early spring blooms and its ability to adapt to a range of soil types, including clay, loam, and sandy soils, provided they have good drainage. It is often used in rock gardens, borders, and as a ground cover in sunny to partly shaded areas. While it prefers medium moisture, it is drought-tolerant once established. Gardeners should be aware that all parts of the plant are toxic if ingested. It is also deer-resistant, making it a good choice for areas with high deer populations.CC BY-SA 4.0
