Rhynchospora rugosa subsp. brownii, commonly known as Grassy Beak-Sedge, is an evergreen perennial grass native to a variety of wetland habitats, including marshes, bogs, wet woods, and along the edges of streams and ponds in Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Pacific Islands. It typically grows to a height of 2-3 feet (0.6-0.9 meters) and a narrow width of 0.1-0.3 feet (0.03-0.09 meters), forming dense clumps of grass-like foliage. The plant features inconspicuous brown flowers that are not particularly showy, but it is valued for its fine-textured, green foliage that adds a naturalistic element to garden settings.

Grassy Beak-Sedge is appreciated for its adaptability to wet conditions and is often used in rain gardens, water features, and as a ground cover in damp areas of the landscape. It is also suitable for erosion control on stream banks and slopes. This sedge prefers full sun but can tolerate part shade, and it thrives in moist to wet soils with good drainage.
