Rosa ×rugotida, commonly known as Rugosa Rose, is a hybrid shrub originating from Eastern Asia, specifically from Japan, Korea, and northeastern China. It is often found in coastal sand dunes and on the edges of salt marshes in its native range. This deciduous shrub typically grows at a moderate rate to a height and width of 4-6 feet (1.2-1.8 meters). Rugosa Rose is known for its densely packed, wrinkled (rugose) dark green leaves and large, fragrant pink flowers that bloom in summer and are highly attractive to pollinators. The flowers can also come in shades of white or red and are followed by large, tomato-shaped, red-orange hips that persist into winter, providing visual interest and food for wildlife.

Rugosa Rose is valued for its hardiness, disease resistance, and tolerance of a range of soil types, including sandy and clay soils. It is often used in mass plantings, as a hedge, or in erosion control, particularly in coastal areas. It thrives in full sun to part shade and requires medium amounts of water with good drainage. While it is low-maintenance, it can spread by suckers, forming dense thickets if not managed.
