Estimated Native Range
Summary
Sedum confusum, commonly known as Lesser Mexican Stonecrop, is an evergreen perennial succulent native to the rocky outcrops and slopes of Mexico. It typically grows to a height of 0.3-0.8 feet (0.09-0.2 meters) and spreads 0.5-1 feet (0.2-0.3 meters) wide. This plant forms a mat-like ground cover with fleshy, bright green leaves that contribute to its ornamental value. The yellow, star-shaped flowers bloom in spring and are moderately showy, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
Lesser Mexican Stonecrop is valued for its drought tolerance and ease of maintenance, making it an excellent choice for rock gardens, green roofs, and as a ground cover in xeriscaped areas. It is also suitable for container gardening and can be used in hanging baskets due to its trailing habit. This succulent prefers full sun to part shade and thrives in well-drained soil, tolerating poor soils with low fertility. While it requires very little water once established, it is important to avoid overwatering to prevent root rot. Sedum confusum is generally pest and disease free but can be susceptible to mealybugs and fungal diseases if overwatered or in poorly drained soils. It is not known to have aggressive roots or other problematic traits.CC BY-SA 4.0
