Sedum morganianum, commonly known as Donkey’s Tail or Burro’s Tail, is a succulent perennial herb native to rocky outcroppings and cliffs in southern Mexico. It is characterized by its trailing stems that can reach up to 60 cm (24 in) in length, with dense, fleshy blue-green leaves. During the summer, it produces terminal clusters of small, star-shaped flowers that range in color from pink to red, adding to its ornamental value. The plant’s trailing habit makes it particularly attractive in hanging baskets, where its stems can drape gracefully over the sides.

Donkey’s Tail is valued for its ease of care and distinctive trailing growth habit, making it a popular choice for indoor hanging baskets and outdoor container gardens in warmer climates. It thrives in bright, indirect light and requires well-draining soil to prevent root rot. Watering should be moderate throughout the growing season, with a reduction in winter to prevent waterlogging. While it can tolerate some direct sunlight, too much can scorch the leaves, so partial shade is ideal. Propagation is easily achieved through stem or leaf cuttings, which root readily in favorable conditions. However, gardeners should handle the plant gently as the leaves detach easily. It is not typically associated with serious pest or disease problems, but overwatering can lead to root rot.
