Summary

Sedum pachyphyllum, commonly known as Jelly Beans or Many Fingers, is an evergreen succulent plant native to the arid environments of Central and Southwest Mexico. It typically grows to a height of 1 foot (0.3 meters) and spreads 2-3 feet (0.6-0.9 meters) wide. This species forms clusters of plump, cylindrical leaves that are green with red tips, resembling jelly beans, especially under stress from sun exposure or drought. The yellow flowers bloom in the summer and are moderately showy, adding a splash of color to the succulent foliage.

Jelly Beans is valued for its drought tolerance and unique, ornamental appearance, making it a popular choice for rock gardens, container plantings, and as ground cover in xeriscapes. It is also used in green roofs and living walls due to its shallow root system and low maintenance requirements. In cultivation, it thrives in full sun to partial shade and requires very low to low amounts of water, preferring well-draining soil to prevent root rot. While generally pest-resistant, overwatering can lead to problems such as fungal diseases. It is easily propagated by leaf cuttings, which readily root and grow into new plants.CC BY-SA 4.0
