Summary

Sedum palmeri, commonly known as Palmer’s Sedum, is a succulent perennial herb native to rocky outcrops and cliffs in the semi-arid regions of Mexico. It typically forms a rounded cushion or mat up to 12 inches high and 16 inches wide. The fleshy, light green leaves are arranged in rosettes and can acquire a reddish tinge during the cooler winter months. From late winter to early spring, it produces clusters of star-shaped, golden yellow flowers that are quite showy and attract pollinators.

Palmer’s Sedum is valued for its drought tolerance, low maintenance requirements, and year-round visual interest, with its foliage color change in winter and vibrant blooms in spring. It is commonly used in rock gardens, as ground cover, in green roofs, and in container plantings. This sedum prefers well-drained soil, thrives in full sun to part shade, and requires minimal watering once established. While it is generally pest-free, overwatering can lead to root rot. It is not known to be invasive and is easily propagated by leaf or stem cuttings.CC BY-SA 4.0
