Estimated Native Range
Summary
Sedum stenopetalum, commonly known as wormleaf stonecrop, is a perennial succulent native to the rocky habitats of western North America, including British Columbia, Alberta, northern California, and Wyoming. This plant is typically found in alpine and subalpine zones, often on cliffs, talus slopes, and other well-drained, rocky sites. It forms dense mats of narrow, lance-shaped, succulent leaves and produces clusters of star-shaped, bright yellow flowers from late spring to early summer. The flowers are quite showy and attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
Wormleaf stonecrop is appreciated for its ornamental qualities, including its attractive foliage and vibrant flowers. It is a low-maintenance plant that is particularly suited to rock gardens, green roofs, and xeriscaping due to its excellent drought tolerance. In cultivation, it requires well-drained soil, preferably sandy or gravelly, and thrives in full sun to light shade. While it is generally pest-free, overwatering can lead to root rot. This plant is also valued for its ability to stabilize soil and prevent erosion on slopes.CC BY-SA 4.0
