Selaginella uncinata, commonly known as Blue Spikemoss, is a semi-deciduous perennial herb native to the humid forest floors and shaded riverbanks of East Asia, including China and Vietnam. It forms a low, spreading mat reaching 0.2-0.4 feet (0.06-0.1 meters) in height and can spread up to 2 feet (0.6 meters) wide. The plant is characterized by its iridescent blue-green foliage that takes on a metallic sheen in the right light conditions, making it a unique and attractive ground cover. Blue Spikemoss produces small, inconspicuous spikes rather than true flowers and is valued for its foliage rather than floral display.

Blue Spikemoss is appreciated for its ability to thrive in challenging garden spots with low light, where few other plants can grow. It is often used as a ground cover in shaded gardens, along pathways, or in container plantings where its trailing habit can be showcased. This plant prefers consistently moist, well-draining soil and benefits from high humidity. It is relatively low maintenance but requires regular watering during dry periods to prevent the foliage from drying out. While it is not prone to serious pests or diseases, it can suffer from root rot if overwatered or planted in poorly draining soils.
