Estimated Native Range
Summary
Senecio triangularis, commonly known as Arrowleaf Groundsel, is a herbaceous perennial native to the moist montane meadows, subalpine zones, and streambanks of the western United States, Canada and Alaska. It thrives at elevations ranging from 328 to 11,483 feet. This plant typically grows up to 47 inches tall and is characterized by its large, triangular to heart-shaped leaves with toothed edges and tall, erect stems. From mid to late summer, it produces clusters of small, bright yellow, daisy-like flowers that are quite showy and attract a variety of pollinators.
Arrowleaf Groundsel is valued for its naturalistic appeal in wildflower gardens and meadow plantings. It is not commonly used in formal garden settings due to its toxic properties; however, it can be a striking addition to native plant gardens. It prefers consistently moist soil and partial shade to full sun exposure. While it is generally low-maintenance, it can be susceptible to rust and leaf spot diseases. Due to its toxicity, it should be planted with caution where grazing animals or children may have access.CC BY-SA 4.0
