Summary
Sisyrinchium bermudiana, commonly known as Bermuda Blue-eyed Grass, is a perennial herb that is native to Bermuda but also found in eastern North America, from Newfoundland to Florida and west to Texas. It typically grows in moist meadows, open woodlands, and along stream banks. This plant reaches a modest height of 6-12 inches (15-30 cm) and features grass-like foliage with a clumping habit. The flowers are star-shaped, with a striking blue or violet hue, and bloom in the spring. They are quite showy and attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
Bermuda Blue-eyed Grass is valued for its ornamental flowers and is often used in rock gardens, border fronts, and as a ground cover. It is relatively low maintenance, requiring medium moisture and well-drained soils. It thrives in full sun to part shade. While generally pest-free, it can suffer from rust or leaf spot in overly moist conditions. This species is not known for aggressive roots or significant disease problems. It is not typically invasive when grown outside its native range, but gardeners should always monitor their plants and manage any unwanted spread.CC BY-SA 4.0
