Estimated Native Range
Summary
Solandra longiflora, commonly known as Golden Chalice Vine, is an evergreen perennial vine native to tropical forests and thickets in Central America and northern South America. It can grow to a height of 11-15 feet (3.4-4.6 meters) and spread 18-27 feet (5-8 meters). This vigorous vine is known for its large, chalice-shaped yellow flowers that bloom profusely in winter and spring, providing a showy display. The flowers are particularly fragrant at night and can reach up to 8 inches (20 cm) in length. The vine’s glossy, elliptical leaves add to its ornamental value.
Golden Chalice Vine is valued for its spectacular flowers and is often used to cover trellises, arbors, and fences in warm climates. It can also be grown in large containers where it can be trained on a support structure. In cultivation, it requires full sun to partial shade, consistent medium moisture, and well-drained soil. While it is relatively low maintenance, it benefits from regular pruning to control its size and shape. It is not known to have serious disease or pest problems, but it can be sensitive to frost. Due to its rapid growth, it may become invasive if not managed properly in suitable climates outside its native range.CC BY-SA 4.0
