Estimated Native Range
Summary
Sphaeralcea ambigua var. rosacea, commonly known as Rosy Apricot Mallow, is an evergreen perennial herb native to arid desert regions, including the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts in the Southwestern United States and California. It typically grows to a height of 3 feet (0.9 meters) and a width of 2-3 feet (0.6-0.9 meters). The plant has a bushy habit with gray-green foliage and produces showy, cup-shaped orange flowers throughout the year, with peak blooming in the spring and summer months.
Rosy Apricot Mallow is valued for its drought tolerance and vibrant flowers, which attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies. It is used in xeriscaping, as a border plant, and in naturalized areas where low water use is essential. This mallow prefers full sun exposure and can thrive in a range of soil types, provided they have good drainage. It is relatively low-maintenance, requiring minimal supplemental watering once established. While generally pest-free, it can occasionally suffer from rust or fungal diseases in humid conditions.CC BY-SA 4.0
