Summary
Sphaeralcea fendleri, commonly known as Fendler’s Globemallow, is a deciduous perennial subshrub or herb native to arid and semi-arid regions, particularly desert grasslands and pinyon-juniper woodlands in the Southwestern United States and Northern Mexico. It typically grows to a height of 2-4 feet (0.6-1.2 meters) and a width of about 1 foot (0.3 meters). Fendler’s Globemallow has a bushy habit with lobed leaves and produces showy, cup-shaped flowers that are pink to orange in color, blooming profusely in the summer and fall.
This plant is valued for its drought tolerance and vibrant flowers, which attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies. It is often used in xeriscaping, native plant gardens, and as a component of wildflower mixes. Fendler’s Globemallow thrives in full sun but can tolerate partial shade. It is adaptable to a range of soil types, provided they are well-drained, and it requires minimal supplemental water once established. While generally low-maintenance, it can be susceptible to rust and other fungal diseases in humid conditions.CC BY-SA 4.0
