It exhibits a moderate growth rate and typically reaches a height and width of 3-12 feet (0.9-3.7 meters). The plant is characterized by its pendulous racemes of yellow flowers that bloom in early spring, providing a showy display against the backdrop of its glossy green leaves. The bark is smooth and may add winter interest in the garden.

Yunnan Spiketail is valued for its early spring flowers and evergreen foliage, which add year-round interest to the garden. It is suitable for use in woodland gardens, mixed borders, and as a specimen plant. This shrub prefers a sheltered position with protection from harsh winds. It thrives in full sun to part shade and requires well-drained soils, such as medium draining clay or loam, with consistent moisture.
