Summary
Stenocarpus sinuatus, commonly known as Queensland Fire-Wheel-Tree, is an evergreen tree originally found in the subtropical rainforests of eastern Australia, including New South Wales and Queensland, as well as the tropical rainforests of New Guinea. It can grow up to 40 meters tall with a trunk diameter of up to 75 cm. The bark is a distinctive greyish-brown, textured with irregularities, and the base of the cylindrical trunk often exhibits flanged buttresses. The tree is renowned for its showy, bright red flowers that are arranged in umbels, resembling a wheel on fire, which bloom predominantly from February to March.
The Queensland Fire-Wheel-Tree is valued for its striking flowers and is used as an ornamental tree in parks, gardens, and urban landscapes. It is also suitable for creating a tropical effect in large gardens. While it can adapt to a range of soil types, it prefers well-drained, fertile soils and can tolerate both full sun and part shade. This species is relatively low-maintenance but may require additional water during dry periods. It is not known for any significant pest or disease problems, but it can be sensitive to frost in cooler climates.CC BY-SA 4.0
