Syncarpha variegata, commonly known as Everlastings, is a perennial herb native to the fynbos region of South Africa, which is characterized by Mediterranean-type heathland with diverse plant species. It typically grows to a height of 1-3 feet (0.3-0.9 meters) and a width of 0.5-2 feet (0.2-0.6 meters). This plant forms tufts of silvery, woolly leaves and bears clusters of small, daisy-like flowers that are predominantly white with a yellow center, often with pink or red tinges on the petals, blooming from late winter to spring. The flowers are known for their papery texture and longevity, even when cut, hence the common name "Everlastings".

Everlastings are valued for their drought tolerance and long-lasting blooms, making them suitable for rock gardens, xeriscaping, and as dried flowers for arrangements. They are often used in cultivation for their low water needs and ability to thrive in poor, well-drained soils. While they prefer full sun, they can tolerate light shade. Gardeners should be aware that Syncarpha variegata may require protection from frost in colder climates.
