Summary

Tabebuia aurea, commonly known as Caribbean Trumpet Tree, is an evergreen tree native South America, especially to the Cerrado and Pantanal regions of Brazil, which are characterized by dry, open woodlands and seasonally flooded areas. It typically grows to a height of 8 meters (26 feet). The leaves are palmately compound with five to seven leaflets, each leaflet measuring 6–18 cm in length, presenting a green color with silvery scales on both surfaces. The bright yellow flowers, up to 6.5 cm in diameter, are produced in loose panicles and are particularly showy as they bloom on leafless branches at the end of the dry season. The fruit is a slender capsule, approximately 10 cm long.

The Caribbean Trumpet Tree is celebrated for its spectacular floral display and is commonly used as an ornamental tree in subtropical and tropical landscapes, including urban settings, gardens, and along streets. It is drought-tolerant, requiring low amounts of water, and thrives in well-drained soils under full sun conditions. While it is low-maintenance, it can be susceptible to root rot if overwatered or planted in poorly drained soils. Its wood is sometimes used in carpentry and for making musical instruments.CC BY-SA 4.0
