Estimated Native Range
Summary
Thalictrum lucidum, commonly known as Shining Meadow Rue, is a perennial herb native to a variety of habitats including moist meadows, riverbanks, and forest clearings in Europe, Western Siberia, and Turkey. It is a tall plant, often reaching 1.5 to 2 meters in height, with a spread of around 60 centimeters. The species is characterized by its lacy, bluish-green foliage and erect, branching stems. From mid to late summer, it produces clusters of small, star-shaped, yellow flowers that are quite showy and attract pollinators. The flowers give way to ornamental, fluffy seed heads that persist into fall.
Shining Meadow Rue is valued for its airy texture and delicate flowers, which can add a touch of elegance to garden borders and wildflower meadows. It is relatively low maintenance, requiring minimal care once established. This plant prefers consistently moist, fertile soils with good drainage and thrives in both full sun and partial shade. While it is not commonly afflicted by diseases, powdery mildew can sometimes be a problem in humid conditions. It is not known for aggressive roots or significant invasiveness. In cultivation, it is often used for its vertical accent and textural contrast, especially in naturalistic plantings and alongside water features.CC BY-SA 4.0
