Estimated Native Range
Summary
Thelionema caespitosum, commonly known as Tufted Lily, is an evergreen perennial herb native to grassy and rocky areas, as well as open forests in Southeastern Australia and Tasmania. It typically grows to a height of 0.5-2 feet (0.2-0.6 meters) and a width of 0.5-1 feet (0.2-0.3 meters). The Tufted Lily features grass-like foliage and produces star-shaped flowers that are blue, light blue, pale yellow, or white with contrasting yellow stamens during the spring and summer months. The flowers are quite showy and attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
The Tufted Lily is valued for its hardiness and the vibrant color it adds to gardens, especially when planted en masse. It is suitable for rockeries, borders, and as an underplanting for larger shrubs. This plant thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers well-drained soils, although it can tolerate a range of soil types. It is relatively low maintenance, requiring only moderate watering once established. While generally disease-free, it can occasionally suffer from root rot if overwatered or planted in poorly drained soils.CC BY-SA 4.0
