Summary
Thunbergia mysorensis, commonly known as Mysore Trumpetvine, is an evergreen perennial vine native to the forested hills and areas of the Western Ghats in India. It is characterized by its woody stems and can reach lengths of up to 6 meters (20 ft). The vine sports long, narrow, medium green leaves that complement its striking flowers. The flowers are large, pendulous, and arranged in racemes, showcasing a curved shape with rich, saturated yellow interiors and maroon to brownish-red outer tips. These blooms are particularly showy from spring to autumn and are known for their sweet nectar, which attracts sunbirds and hummingbirds.
Mysore Trumpetvine is valued for its ornamental appeal, especially in tropical and subtropical gardens, where it can be used to adorn pergolas, trellises, and other structures with its cascading flowers. It has earned the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit, indicating its excellence for garden use. While it thrives in frost-free temperate climates, it requires protection from frost in cooler regions. It prefers full sun to part shade and requires consistent moisture with well-draining soil to flourish. This vine can be vigorous and may require regular pruning to keep it under control.CC BY-SA 4.0
