Tillandsia cyanea, commonly known as Pink Quill, is an epiphytic perennial herb that originates from the rainforests of Ecuador. It typically grows up to 20 inches in both height and width. This plant forms stemless rosettes of thin, recurved leaves and is known for its paddle-shaped spikes of bright pink bracts from which violet flowers emerge, blooming primarily in spring and autumn. The flowers are quite showy and add a tropical flair to any setting.

Pink Quill is valued for its unique inflorescence and ease of care, making it a popular choice for indoor cultivation. It has earned the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit, indicating its exceptional performance under UK conditions. In cultivation, it requires bright, indirect light and high humidity, mimicking its rainforest habitat. It thrives in well-draining, orchid potting mix or mounted on bark or driftwood. Watering is done by misting the leaves and ensuring the central cup is filled with water. Overwatering should be avoided to prevent root rot. Pink Quill can be susceptible to scale insects and mealybugs.
