Summary

Triteleia hyacinthina, commonly known as White Brodiaea, is a deciduous perennial herb that is native to the open woodlands, grasslands, and meadows of the Pacific Northwest, including Oregon, Washington, and Northern California. It typically grows from a corm and can reach up to 60 centimeters (24 inches) in height. The plant produces an erect stem that culminates in an umbel-like cluster of numerous flowers. Each flower is funnel-shaped, supported by a pedicel up to 5 centimeters (2.0 inches) long, and is white with a purple-tinged tubular throat and six green-veined tepals. The flowering season occurs in late spring to early summer, and the blooms are moderately showy, attracting pollinators such as bees.

White Brodiaea is valued for its delicate flowers and is often used in rock gardens, native plant gardens, and as a border plant. It is relatively low maintenance, drought-tolerant once established, and can provide a charming floral display without requiring excessive care. In cultivation, it thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers well-drained soils. It is also suitable for naturalizing in meadows or informal garden areas. While generally free of serious pests and diseases, it can be susceptible to root rot if overwatered or planted in poorly draining soils.CC BY-SA 4.0
