Summary
Triteleia ixioides, commonly known as Prettyface, is a deciduous perennial herb that is native to open woodlands and grassy slopes in California and Oregon. It grows from a corm, which allows it to survive dry summer conditions typical of its native habitat. Prettyface typically produces one to two basal leaves that can reach up to 50 centimeters in length and 1.5 centimeters in width. The inflorescence, an umbel-like cluster, arises on an erect stem up to 80 centimeters tall, with each flower borne on a pedicel up to 7 centimeters long. The flowers are showy and variable in size, measuring one to nearly three centimeters in length, and are most commonly pale to bright yellow, although some may have a purple-tinged white hue. The blooming period occurs in the spring, adding a splash of color to the landscape.
Prettyface is valued for its striking yellow flowers and is suitable for rock gardens, native plant gardens, and as a border plant. It is relatively low maintenance, requiring minimal water once established, making it a good choice for drought-tolerant gardens. In cultivation, it thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers well-drained soils. While it is not commonly afflicted by serious diseases or pests, it can be susceptible to rot if overwatered or planted in poorly drained soils.CC BY-SA 4.0
