Estimated Native Range
Summary
Tulipa clusiana, commonly known as Lady Tulip, is a deciduous perennial herb native to rocky slopes and semi-arid regions of Central Asia, including Afghanistan, Iran, and Pakistan. It typically grows to a height of 0.5-1 feet (0.2-0.3 meters) and a width of 0.5-0.8 feet (0.2-0.2 meters). Lady Tulip has a slender form with narrow, lance-shaped leaves and typically produces flowers in the spring that are bicolored, with petals that are red on the outside and white or yellow on the inside, creating a striking display when blooms open fully in the sunshine.
Lady Tulip is appreciated for its elegant flowers and is often used in rock gardens, borders, and as a naturalizing bulb in grassy areas. It is relatively low-maintenance, requiring minimal care once established. It thrives in well-drained soil and is best planted in a sunny location to encourage flowering. While it is drought-tolerant once established, it benefits from regular watering during the growing season. Lady Tulip is not commonly afflicted by serious diseases or pests, but bulb rot can occur in overly wet conditions. It is also less attractive to deer and rodents compared to other tulip species, making it a good choice for areas with wildlife pressure.CC BY-SA 4.0
