Estimated Native Range
Summary
Vancouveria planipetala, commonly known as Redwood Inside-Out Flower, is a perennial herb native to the understory of coastal coniferous forests, particularly those dominated by Redwoods, in Northern California and Southern Oregon. It typically reaches a modest height of 12-18 inches (30-45 cm) and can spread to about 24 inches (60 cm) wide. Its delicate, heart-shaped leaves and intricate, nodding white flowers with a hint of yellow or purple give it a unique appearance. The flowers bloom profusely in late spring to early summer and are quite showy, attracting pollinators.
Redwood Inside-Out Flower is valued for its attractive foliage and flowers, as well as its adaptability to shade gardens. It is often used as a ground cover or in woodland gardens, and it thrives under the canopy of larger plants. It prefers moist, well-drained soils rich in organic matter and can tolerate a range of light conditions from full shade to part shade. While it requires regular watering, once established, it is relatively low maintenance. It is not known for any significant disease or pest issues, but it can be sensitive to overly dry conditions.CC BY-SA 4.0
