Estimated Native Range
Summary
Vauquelinia corymbosa, commonly known as Slimleaf Rosewood, is an evergreen shrub or small tree native to the rocky slopes and canyons of Mexico, particularly in semi-desert regions and oak woodlands. It typically grows to a height of 4-20 feet (1.2-6.1 meters) and a width of 4-15 feet (1.2-4.6 meters), featuring a dense, rounded form. The plant is adorned with glossy, leathery leaves that are narrow and elongated, contributing to its common name. During the summer months, Slimleaf Rosewood produces clusters of small, white, fragrant flowers that are attractive to pollinators. Its bark is smooth and gray, adding to its ornamental value.
Slimleaf Rosewood is valued for its drought tolerance and evergreen foliage, making it an excellent choice for water-wise gardens and xeriscaping. It is also used as a screen or hedge due to its dense growth habit. In cultivation, it requires minimal maintenance once established, thriving in full sun and well-drained soils. It is not particular about soil pH or type, but it does prefer fast-draining conditions. While generally disease-resistant, it can be susceptible to root rot if overwatered. Slimleaf Rosewood is not known for aggressive roots or significant pest problems, making it a reliable plant for urban settings and residential landscapes.CC BY-SA 4.0
