Summary

Vauquelinia corymbosa subsp. angustifolia, commonly known as Chisos Rosewood, is an evergreen tree or large shrub native to the mountainous regions, rocky slopes, and canyons of Northeast Mexico and the Chisos Mountains in Texas. It typically grows to a height of 10-20 feet (3-6.1 meters) and a width of 6-10 feet (1.8-3 meters), featuring a dense, rounded to irregular crown. The foliage is glossy green, and the plant produces clusters of showy, white flowers in the summer, which are followed by small, persistent fruits that add to its ornamental value.

Chisos Rosewood is valued for its drought tolerance and evergreen nature, making it an excellent choice for water-wise gardens and xeriscaping. It is often used for screening, as a windbreak, or as an accent plant in residential landscapes. This species thrives in full sun and requires well-drained soils, preferably with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. While it is drought-tolerant once established, it benefits from occasional deep watering during prolonged dry periods. It is relatively free of serious pests and diseases, but root rot can occur in poorly drained soils.CC BY-SA 4.0
