Summary
Veronica peduncularis, commonly known as Creeping Speedwell, is an evergreen perennial subshrub or herb that is native to open woodlands, meadows, and subalpine and alpine areas in Southeastern Europe, including the Crimea and the Caucasus. It typically grows to a height of 0.3-0.5 feet (0.09-0.2 meters) and a width of 0.5-1 feet (0.2-0.3 meters), forming a low, spreading mat of foliage. The plant is adorned with small, ovate leaves and produces a profusion of blue, pink, and white flowers from late spring to early summer, which are highly attractive to pollinators.
Creeping Speedwell is valued for its ground-covering ability, low maintenance, and the charming, colorful flowers that enliven the garden during the flowering season. It is often used in rock gardens, as an edging plant, in containers, or as a part of a gravel garden or alpine garden. It thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers well-drained soil with moderate moisture. While generally disease-resistant, it can suffer from root rot in overly wet conditions. The cultivar ’Georgia Blue’ is particularly noted for its vibrant blue flowers and has received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit.CC BY-SA 4.0
