Estimated Native Range
Summary
Veronica repens, commonly known as Creeping Speedwell, is an evergreen perennial herb native to the western Mediterranean, most commonly in Corsicathrives in open woodlands and on rocky slopes. It typically forms a low mat reaching 0.3 feet in height and can spread 0.3 to 1 foot wide. This plant is characterized by its small, glossy green leaves and delicate blue to purple flowers that bloom profusely in spring and early summer, adding a splash of color to garden settings.
Creeping Speedwell is valued for its ground-covering ability, forming a dense carpet that can suppress weeds and stabilize soil. Its flowers are modestly showy and attract pollinators such as bees. It is ideal for rock gardens, along pathways, or spilling over walls. While it prefers full sun, it can tolerate part shade and requires well-drained soil. Once established, it has low water needs and is relatively maintenance-free. However, it can be susceptible to root rot in poorly drained soils and may suffer from leaf spot diseases.CC BY-SA 4.0
