Viburnum nudum, commonly known as Possumhaw, is a deciduous shrub or small tree native to lowland forests, swamps, and bogs in the Eastern United States and Canada. It typically grows to a height and width of 5-12 feet (1.5-3.7 meters), featuring a rounded form with arching branches. The leaves are glossy, dark green, and elliptical, turning to a striking display of purple to pinkish-red in the fall. The creamy white flowers, which appear in late spring to early summer, are showy and fragrant, arranged in flat-topped clusters known as cymes. These are followed by berries that change from green to pink and then to blue-black, providing seasonal interest and wildlife value.

Possumhaw is valued for its multi-season interest, including its beautiful flowers, colorful fall foliage, and attractive berries. It is used for naturalistic plantings, as a specimen plant, or in shrub borders, and is particularly well-suited for wet sites. This species prefers acidic, moist, well-drained soils but can adapt to a range of conditions. It requires full sun to part shade and benefits from regular watering, especially in dry periods.
