Estimated Native Range
Summary
Zantedeschia elliottiana, commonly known as Golden Arum, is a deciduous perennial herb native to grasslands and marshy areas of South Africa. It reaches up to 60 cm (2 ft) in height and features large, arrow-shaped deep green leaves that are often spotted with white. The plant is known for its summer-blooming flowers, which consist of a showy yellow spathe with purple markings at the base, surrounding a central yellow spadix. After flowering, it may produce a spike of bright yellow berries that attract birds. The Golden Arum grows from a rhizome rather than a true bulb.
Golden Arum is valued for its striking yellow flowers, which can add a splash of color to summer gardens. It is suitable for use in borders, as a focal point in garden beds, or in containers. This plant prefers full sun to partial shade and requires consistently moist soil with good drainage to thrive. While it is relatively easy to maintain, it can be susceptible to root rot if overwatered. In areas with cold winters, the rhizomes should be lifted and stored during the dormant season to prevent freezing.CC BY-SA 4.0
